Abstract
In this video recording, dated January 25, 1982, professor and historian Dr. John Henrik Clarke addresses an audience at the Mallory Church of Christ in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Clarke argues that the current moment is both the best and worst time for people of African descent. He urges his listeners to begin to reclaim confidence in themselves and stop relying on the worldview of other people, particularly Europeans. Clarke expresses his belief that Africans can become independent and will be a “world power.” He also discusses the need for a socialist economy, not based on Marxism, more in line with African values.
