Abstract
Mordecai Johnson gives an emancipation proclamation centennial address at the Interdenominational Theological Center. In the address he discusses the importance of African Americans not merely thinking of themselves as slaves, and how the emancipation was a great act of God. He encourages those in attendance to look at the emancipation proclamation in the most broad, comprehensive, and meaningful way as they can.
