Abstract
This video recording, dated June 15, 1984, consists of a presentation by Dr. Asa G. Hilliard, III to an unidentified audience. The presentation was aired as a television program on a community television station in an unidentified location. Dr. Hilliard discusses the limitations of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) tests and personality assessments for children, particularly African American children. He argues that the real problem with IQ tests is not cultural bias but the fact that the tests are used in ranking systems for all students. Hilliard contends that using IQ and personality tests to rank students should be replaced by a more “sophisticated” system focusing on diagnosis and remediation.
