This research examined selected predictors (race, sex, marital status and income) that are assumed to have influence on living arrangements of the elderly in the State of Georgia. This study relies on the theory of disengagement, a gradual mutual withdrawal of the individual resulting in decreased interactions of the aging, and the social system to which they belong. The results showed that three hypotheses (sex, marital status and income) were highly significant in living arrangements of the elderly. The variable on race showed that there was no significant difference on living arrangement of the elderly. Data for this study were obtained from the 1990 Bureau of the Census. The data base included 22,062 subjects 65 and older throughout Dekalb County Georgia. The chi-square values were tested significant at .01 level for all hypotheses. In addition, other descriptive techniques such as percentages, proportions, and frequency distributions were used.
