Guidelines for Contributing Content to RADAR

WHO:

We accept material from any faculty member or group that contributes to the scholarly output of the Atlanta University Center’s member institutions (Clark Atlanta University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, Robert W. Woodruff Library, and Spelman College). We welcome student scholarship such as honors theses, papers, posters, journals and literary magazines, videos and other research submitted by a supervising faculty or staff member.

WHAT:

A wide range of digital material can be published in the AUC Woodruff Library’s RADAR, including but not limited to text, video, image, and audio files. Possible materials for addition include the following:

  • articles and preprints
  • technical reports
  • working papers
  • conference papers/presentations
  • dissertations/theses/practicums/capstone projects
  • journals and publications
  • posters
  • abstracts
  • open access textbooks and other open educational resources (OER)
  • out-of-copyright books in digital format
  • images/artwork
  • audio files
  • video files

The AUC Woodruff Library can also host online open access journals using Open Journals System (OJS), developed by the Public Knowledge Project, assists with every stage of the peer review publishing process from submission to review and editing to publishing.

WHY:

The AUC Woodruff Library's RADAR makes the scholarship of the AUC member institutions easily available in one location online, enabling global access to colleagues, students, and the academic community. Scholarly work deposited here is more easily discovered in common internet search engines, making it easier for researchers around the world to discover your work. All digital objects published in the repository have a permanent URL that make accessing them easier for all users.

HOW:

To discuss your scholarship hosting needs, please contact the Digital Services Department by following this link and completing Scholarship and Research Data Submission Form. You can also reach them at DSD@auctr.edu.

You will be asked to provide the following:

  • Introductory page text: If you are working with the Digital Services Department (DSD) to set up a new publication or collection, please submit introductory text (just a few sentences describing the resource/program) and an image or logo for the home page.
  • File Transfer: files can be transferred to the Library via a portable device, a file sharing tool such as Dropbox or ownCloud or by secure file transfer tools such as Exactly.
  • Accepted file formats:
Documents and Publications - PDF (preferred), RTF, DOC, DOCX
    Images - TIFF, JPG
    Audio - WAV, MP3
Video - MP4 (preferred), MOV, AVI, WMV
Research Data formats - please contact DSD (see above) to discuss.
  • Metadata: Information about the resource that is not included within the file may be needed to enhance discoverability. Typical metadata fields include: Title, Author/Creator, Date, Abstract/Description
  • Rights Statement: A rights statement captures information about copyright and/or licenses related to the digital object. It also often provides contact information for inquiries about usages of the material that are not protected by a Creative Commons license or fair use provisions. The AUC Woodruff Library has adopted the use of standardized language for rights statement as developed by RightsStatements.org specifically for cultural heritage organizations.
