This study posits systemic patriarchy within the organizational structures of the Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) and the Missionary Baptists' religious denominations. These biased practices affect the spiritual growth and development of African American women who serve as pastors and leaders in these ministries. The researcher discusses the significance of African American women who lead in the church and how the Missionary Baptist and the Church of God in Christ denominations should re-evaluate their stance on women in the pulpit, given that these institutions have persisted in holding on to their patriarchal beliefs. The researcher interviewed African American women pastors to examine their ministerial roles as pastors and leaders in these organizations, with a particular interest in analyzing the participants' experiences. The study obtained experiential insight from those instances where these Black women faced resistance and persistent challenges in ministry. Their genuine desire to serve in leadership had essentially been reproved through the subtle exercise of doctrinal restraints. Many of these regulations endeavor to question the biblical truth of the woman's pastoral calling because of gender. The findings reveal that the organizational structures of the C.O.G.I.C. and the Missionary Baptist denominations are entrenched in systemic patriarchal practices. The results suggest that this imbued prejudice impedes the spiritual growth and development of Black women, most notably those who are pastors and leaders. The dissertation expounds on the presence of gender biases in these religious organizations and the role these prejudices play in promoting or advancing African American women within the leadership structures of these two denominations.
