Valuing the Gray
Andrews, Chanara

2010-2019
This introduction presents an innate contrast between the "dry," "involuntary plan" of gray and the "white and violet" associated with a dream. With the nearly mystical nature of the vibrant dream being spoken of longingly, one is left to consider what value the unwavering gray might have at all. Through an assessment of various mediums utilized by Black artists, the value of those things which are overlooked, unsaid - or any other way gray - comes into focus.
