Tom Skinner came to SCLC's Operation Breadbasket Saturday meeting to share the Good News to the live and radio audience that Jesus was a revolutionary feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and visiting those in prison. Transcription of caption: Oct. 2, 1970 -- Hunger still hurts in Kenwood-Oakland where SCLC Operation Breadbasket distributed 1,168 bags of food. Prepared by volunteers in the Breadbasket Hunger Program, the food was distributed to an overflowing group of people at Christ the King Church, 3701 S. Lake Park. Rev. Jesse Jackson; Rev. Mrs. Willie Barrow, Director of Special Projects for Breadbasket; Ginger Mack of the Chicago Welfare Rights Organization; and Rev. Curtis Burrell of KOCO met and talked with the large numbers of people facing hunger conditions inspite of City and other hunger programs now in existence. Transcription of caption: Jan. 31, 1970 -- "Hunger Hurts" is the theme of SCLC's Operation Breadbasket's Hunger Booth set up in the lobby of Capitol Theatre, 79th & Halsted, each Saturday during the weekly meeting. The photo booth calls attention to SCLC's Hunger Breakfast Feeding Program by providing a place where donated foods can be left for stopping the hurt of hunger. SCLC feeds more than 3,000 people each week, black and white, in its Hunger Campaign protest that demonstrates that the poor and the hungry are ignored by the government that is supposed to protect the welfare of its people.
