Part four of an interview with Thena Norman at the Atlanta City Studio in the Cascade neighborhood of Atlanta, where she discusses her life and living in the Cascade neighborhood of Atlanta. The historical period discussed ranges from the mid to late 20th to early 21st centuries (1950s—2018). Norman is interviewed by Jayme Canty.

00:00:01 ‘Little Vietnam’ by Memorial/Moreland area; homelessness and prostitution that moved to the area because ‘people just scattered’ once developers tore down projects. And police do not do anything about the prostitution taking place; speaks of an official who was mugged outside his office on Cascade; mentions how people in the neighborhood need to be the ones to maintain the area- story of her and her husband painting the wall when it was covered in graffiti and of her getting a friend of hers to remove the shoes from the powerline. Sneakers on the powerline marks where can buy drugs. Part of the property she bought, the other half she doesn’t own because she does not know who it belongs to; wants more information about to get that cemetery preserved; would be willing to donate the part that she owns to some entity to make it a historical landmark because are a few headstones from the Civil War; believes that the cemetery was predominately black; Philadelphia Baptist Church owned that area. |
